I started writing a haiku a day in July 2011 as a journaling project - a creative challenge that would also chronicle the ordinary moments of life. It has been a great discipline for encouraging me to think about the aspect of each day that stands out, and how to craft that into three lines of five, seven and five syllables.
Jan 24 - At Ellice Recycle Giving A Less Than Stellar Sendoff To The Ancient Pots And Frying Pans, Though The Heavy Pot Lid Sings A Loud And Mournful Song When It Falls
Warped, blackened, filthy
Still, I feel Mom's gasp as I
toss them into "Steel"
